28. D。细节理解题。根据第二段中的... tired of riding the academic conveyor belt from preschool all the way to university. They're burnt out. Or not quite ready. Or they want to explore a few interests before deciding what to study in college可知,学生们想要休学一年主要有三个原因:一、一直上学太累了,需要暂时抽离;二、没有对大学生活作好准备;三、不知道自己的兴趣所在,所以决定不了大学应该选择什么专业。故选D项。

29. C。推理判断题。根据第三段中的But a gap year does not mean that a student will remain degree-less forever ... evidence from admissions officers across the country says very few actually leave college without finishing their courses不难推测,家长们主要担心孩子们休学一年后不愿意再回学校完成学业。

33. B。推理判断题。根据第二段中的so the Nest thermostat first provides a good example of what is fast coming down the road可知,谷歌的Nest恒温器跨出智能装置领域的第一步,由此可推断,许多这类的智能装置仍“在设计阶段(on the drawing board)”。

34. D。推理判断题。根据第三段中的the Nest thermostat can understand what its owners want以及After four days, Nest learns enough to keep the house as hot or cold as the person generally prefers at different times可知,通过几天的设置,Nest恒温器能够掌握主人平常对温度的具体喜好。

35. A。推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的 “Nest Leaf,” which gives the user feedback whenever the temperatures they set save energy ... a green leaf appears on the thermostat可知,每当使用者设定的温度有助于节能,Nest恒温器就会出现一片绿叶为使用者提供反馈。

To  whom  it  may  concern,

I’m one of your customers. I ordered a set of Bookworm Series on your website two weeks ago,but I didn’t receive them until yesterday. And much to my disappointment, the books were so poorly packed up that the cover of one book was torn. To make matters worse,it is not a complete set,as I found one book missing.

I’m sorry to have received such poor service, and I believe I have every right to ask you to deal with this problem. I hope that you either return my money or deliver a new set of books to me. Besides,I’d like to be informed of the process of your dealing with my complaint.

Looking  forward  to  your  reply.

W: Let me see. Oh, I’m very sorry, Mr. Turner, but we’re fully booked on April 4th, because of a great show. Well, you can try another hotel nearby. It’s newly-opened.

M: Where did you celebrate last year?

W: Everyone came to stay with us.

M: And who cooked for everyone?

W: Well, we all did really. I did the turkey. Suki made her famous apple pie for dessert. Grandma brought me some fresh fruit and vegetables from her garden.

M: And what about all the cleaning up after the party?

W: Oh, we all do that together. Thanksgiving is the only time I see some of my family. We all live so far apart. That’s why I love Thanksgiving so much. You should come next year and see what it’s all about!

M: I’d love to.

(Text 10)

W: The full football match will be after the news at 6 o'clock. Now, the other big event this weekend was the New York Marathon. To bring us up to date with the news from New York, here's Martin.

M: Yes, it's all over here in New York. The biggest event of the afternoon for the visitors in Manhattan's Central Park was the arrival on the line of the two Britons, Ranulph Fiennes and Mike Stroud. Fiennes and Stroud crossed the line together with an official time of 5 hours 25 minutes and 46 seconds and will surely be in the Guinness Book of Records. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this achievement is that Ranulph Fiennes suffered a heart attack earlier this year and had a heart operation just three months ago. But at the party tonight in New York's Central Park to celebrate the end of the race, their fans were disappointed to find that Fiennes and Stroud were not there. A spokesman for the British Heart Foundation said that they are completely tired and they have gone home. They caught a plane to London earlier this morning. Fiennes has gone to join his wife before going into hospital for a check-up on his heart next week. Stroud has gone to London for a day of rest before returning to work on Tuesday morning. This is Martin reporting from New York's Central Park.

W: Thank you, Martin. It is now six o'clock, Greenwich Mean Time.
